ISRI.ORG 13 2019 Annual Report Impact in a Year of Change At the National Conference of State Legislatures’ Legislative Summit, more than 60 ISRI members worked to educate more than 2,300 state policymakers and staff about how the recycling industry operates to conserve natural resources while driving job creation and economic growth. As part of the California Metal Recyclers Coalition, ISRI filed suit against California’s Depart of Toxic Substances Control to prevent it from treating scrap metal as hazardous waste under state law. ISRI truly represents the voice of the recycling industry to the state legislators and staff attending the NCSL Summit. The hands- on experience not only effectively showcases the economic and environmental benefits of the recycling industry, but demonstrates the real-world policy implications made at the state level. –Former NCSL President and South Dakota State Sen. Deb Peters “ ” The Northwest and Wisconsin chapters merged into the Upper Midwest Chapter to better leverage their resources. Montana Lt. Gov. Mike Cooney received the first-ever Recycling Impact Award for his work on recycling stewardship. ISRI presents the award to a National Lieutenant Governors Association member who is committed to working within a state, region, and/or its communities to positively affect resource conservation and recycling.
