ISRI.ORG 19 2019 Annual Report Impact in a Year of Change The 2019 Commodity Roundtables Forum attracted near-record numbers of participants. More than 700 attendees discussed a wide range of critical issues affecting the scrap industry, including overseas growth markets for scrap, U.S. recycling and manufacturing investments, commodity market volatility and the disparity between primary and secondary prices, the state of the U.S. and global economies, and China’s continuing impact on the global scrap marketplace. The highly successful 2019 ISRI Shredder Operations Forum took a forward-looking approach to the industry, presenting topics such as emissions controls, new technology in shredding systems, downstream sorting systems, safety and maintenance, and more. ISRI hosted 20 webinars on topics including markets, safety, leadership, and emerging technology. These live, online learning opportunities trained nearly 500 attendees. The Industry Leadership Development Program brought together an intimate group of 20 individuals to focus on how to become strong leaders in the industry. The faculty—fellow ISRI members—presented topics such as building and developing a team, performance- based leadership, financial planning, and public relations. In November, ISRI hosted its first joint meeting with the Carolinas Plastic Recycling Council focused on changes in plastics processing and end use , technology, best practices in plastics identification, chemical recycling, and market trends.
