2019 ISRI Annual Report
ISRI.ORG 5 2019 Annual Report Impact in a Year of Change Brian Shine Chair Robin Wiener President was on the ground in India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, and many other countries. We also actively fought for the industry in front of multinational organizations such as the Basel Convention and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development while leveraging relationships with our counterparts around the world for the benefit of members. Education: In 2019, ISRI offered opportunities for member company employees at all levels to pursue professional development on topics that included safety, operations, leadership, management, and market analysis. Our educational efforts also reach beyond today’s worker to find and train tomorrow’s. Through our partnership with JASON Learning, we offer a K-12 recycling curriculum to teach children the science behind recycling. This helps promote the importance of recycling in the community and promote recycling as a career. 2019 also saw the development of the first pre-apprenticeship program for the recycling industry at a community college, thanks to ISRI’s Pacific Northwest Chapter. We already are working to expand this effort to other locations across the country in 2020. Last year saw a key expansion in ISRI’s efforts to educate policymakers, the media, manufacturers, and the public. The decisions these populations make can significantly affect members and the industry as a whole. As the Voice of the Recycling Industry ® , ISRI’s responsibility is to educate them about how our industry operates and what they can do to strengthen the recycling system. This annual report gives an overview of what ISRI, led by our members, accomplished in 2019. As we look to 2020, we are better prepared than ever to handle the ever-changing recycling environment. ISRI made numerous improvements in 2019 to better serve members. We will offer more education and training to meet member companies’ crucial needs as well as additional resources related environmental compliance, research and market data, and workforce management. And we will be advocating on many levels for more use of recycled content in manufacturing as well for as a host of other initiatives outlined in our 2020 advocacy agenda. Most of all, we look forward to continuing to serve our members and lead the industry.
