ISRI Safety Environmental Council (ISEC)
As the primary professional development forum for safety
and environmental professionals in the recycling industry,
ISEC attracted nearly 150 attendees to its spring and fall
conferences in 2015. Issues that were discussed include
leading violations in scrap recycling yards, proper dust
management, fall prevention, the relationship between
transformational leadership and safety outcomes, the
economics of a safety program, appliance recycling, met-
als theft prevention, handling pressurized cylinders, roll-
off safety, and the definition of solid waste. ISRI’s Spring
2016 ISEC forum will take place May 3-5 in Cleveland, and
we hope you will join us!
Outreach Services and Training
Each year, ISRI provides its members free outreach
services focused on operational safety. These services
have become a great way for ISRI members to receive
on-site guidance to build stronger safety programs at
their facilities. In 2015, ISRI’s Safety team visited nearly
100 ISRI members, providing Safety Management Blue-
prints, 10-Hour Safety Training sessions, Transportation
Assessments, and Material Handler Train-the-Trainer
courses to thousands of employees across the industry.
In the Field
In June 2015, ISRI’s Mid Atlantic Chapter held its
first Safety Summit in York, PA. Thirty-six employ-
ees from 17 ISRI member companies participated
in the summit. The summit included breakout
sessions focusing on improving powered truck in-
dustrial safety program, understanding confined
space entry protocol, implementing lock-out/
tag-out, and working with outside contractors,
vendors, and customers at your facility.
